A Tale of 2 Coins...

All things Quilty are going pretty slowly around here of late. What with the half term holidays and trying to keep the boys occupied...
here's the result of a bit of geocaching...

Lucas found a trackable coin! It's been around Germany, over to the USA where it went to Minnesota and New York State and then over here to the UK. We have dutifully moved it on, although only by about 10 miles!

And partying....

The car boot sale was disappointing and only yielded some ribbons and pearl cotton this week...

But there was time to squeeze in one more Super Mario block in the form of a coin...

This brings my total to 7/14 now, so halfway there with the damn 1.5" strips and squares! Woo Hoo!

Looking at the blocks laid out like this I realise I need to make blocks in other colours! The next block, a power up flower, will introduce orange and green to the colour mix, following that are Mushroom and Luigi blocks which will add even more green... but I need 7 more blocks so will need to get researching and drawing!

I'll be linking up with the usual parties;

Distracted...

I saw this picture on facebook and it is so apt for me this past week.

I've been reading blogs and clicking on each and every contribution to the linky parties...

Which means that all I have to show so far this week is a cute little aqua ribbon blankie for one of our teaching assistants at school who's leaving on Thursday to be a mummy.

Plus I've had Daniel off school with a nasty ear infection as well which doesn't help my sewing, all he wants is cuddles, which i'm making the most of because soon he won't want to be seen dead with mummy I'm sure!

Must focus...

Oh look, a linky party - lol!

My first quilt finish of 2013!

My mum commissioned me for a baby boy quilt and this was quick and easy to put together, using Alexander Henry 2D Zoo fabric in blues and greens with some stripes in co-ordinating RK solids and some white to lighten it up a bit.

For the back mum asked for a soft snuggly feel so I used a flannel sheet from Mothercare coupled with some more of the blue and green solids and I did some simple wavy line quilting.

Then I put together a scrappy binding in all the colours aswell.

It measures 43x45 inches.
I apologise for the poor picture quality yet again but I finished it after dark.

While you're here may I pick your brains? I use Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton Batting, because it's easy for me to get hold of and is reasnoably priced but what wadding do you guys use/recommend? Also i'd like to make a loftier quilt, which waddings are good for loftiness?

I'm pleased to report that the flu has been kicked in the butt and although I feel a bit weak and weedy normal service is slowly being resumed.  Thank you for your get well messages, xxx

For some reason I honestly thought it was Tuesday today, senior moment? very possibly... but it's not, so i'll be linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced, and now I have to try and remember all my WIP's!

Stand back! We've got the flu!

Oh dear, only one measly block to show for a whole week, not good.
It's The Ghost block for my Super Mario quilt and I'm pleased with how this one turned out.

Unfortunately I've spent the past 5 days in bed with the flu and now it seems I'm sharing my germs with the kids as they are both off school today with temperatures :(

Hopefully February will prove to be more productive!

I'm cheering myself up by checking out Fresh Sewing Day over at Lily's Quilts.

Lily's Quilts

Oh, and after living here for 10 years, and with the wife sick in bed, him indoors decided to do this to my bathroom!  Hmmm... I'm sure once my temperature goes down and I'm feeling more human I'll be over the moon at the prospect of getting a big new walk in shower but right now all the banging and crashing is making me grumpy. Lol!
