A Tale of 2 Coins...

All things Quilty are going pretty slowly around here of late. What with the half term holidays and trying to keep the boys occupied...
here's the result of a bit of geocaching...

Lucas found a trackable coin! It's been around Germany, over to the USA where it went to Minnesota and New York State and then over here to the UK. We have dutifully moved it on, although only by about 10 miles!

And partying....

The car boot sale was disappointing and only yielded some ribbons and pearl cotton this week...

But there was time to squeeze in one more Super Mario block in the form of a coin...

This brings my total to 7/14 now, so halfway there with the damn 1.5" strips and squares! Woo Hoo!

Looking at the blocks laid out like this I realise I need to make blocks in other colours! The next block, a power up flower, will introduce orange and green to the colour mix, following that are Mushroom and Luigi blocks which will add even more green... but I need 7 more blocks so will need to get researching and drawing!

I'll be linking up with the usual parties;

Stand back! We've got the flu!

Oh dear, only one measly block to show for a whole week, not good.
It's The Ghost block for my Super Mario quilt and I'm pleased with how this one turned out.

Unfortunately I've spent the past 5 days in bed with the flu and now it seems I'm sharing my germs with the kids as they are both off school today with temperatures :(

Hopefully February will prove to be more productive!

I'm cheering myself up by checking out Fresh Sewing Day over at Lily's Quilts.

Lily's Quilts

Oh, and after living here for 10 years, and with the wife sick in bed, him indoors decided to do this to my bathroom!  Hmmm... I'm sure once my temperature goes down and I'm feeling more human I'll be over the moon at the prospect of getting a big new walk in shower but right now all the banging and crashing is making me grumpy. Lol!

Exhausted!!!

Well we wished for a snow day and we've had nearly a week! Three days were spent sledging and snowballing then it was back to school (where I also work), then I helped evacuate nearly 200 children to the local community centre after a suspected gas leak - which now turns out to be the stupid French gas cloud! But there was some sewing time in there somewhere as I managed to:-

Put together a crib sized quilt top, for which I'm now awaiting backing decisions.

I made a couple more sampler blocks for my own quilt. This brings the total to 11 blocks and I only need 14 so the end could be in sight!

There were so many of these Granny Square blocks around last year and whilst looking at peoples 2012 roundups I saw them all again and realised I hadn't made one - and I know they are probably so last year but hey, now I can say I did one! And it was so quick and easy and looks so cute too.

I also put together another block for the Super Mario quilt, it's supposed to be a black bomb...

but it looks weird to me. It is not pressed or sashed yet so maybe it will look okay in the grand scheme of things, I'll have to wait and see...

And it's Wednesday so I'm linking up with Freshly Pieced as well :-)

P.S. I apologise for the poor picture quality, my iphone seems to be taking very dark photos...

Super Mario Block

Wow this one came together quickly!  This random piecing malarkey is fabulous!  Here he is, Mr Super Mario himself, although sometimes I look at it and see him and other times I don't see him...

I hit the big 'five-oh' 50 followers yesterday! Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to read my ramblings and comment on my creations, it's a milestone for me for sure!

The kids have broken up from school for the two week Easter holidays, and I'm hoping the weather will continue to be nice and they can be out in the garden playing while I construct some more of these Mario blocks...

Have a great weekend everyone, I'm off to start block No 3.

WIP Wednesday #15

Wednesday again?!?!

Having got my sewing machine back on Friday I was able to spend some time on Saturday on my Central Park Sampler Blocks
Here is the Star of Virginia block, others can be seen here.

I've started a new quilt today.... Super Mario Brothers for my boys.
I've sketched out some pixelated images which should make 18" blocks (very approximately!). I'm really excited about this one, I think it could be an amazing quilt.  The piecing is tricky, you can already see where it's not quite lining up, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it, the fun is in the making right?

Stats:
No progress this week on the;
Solids HST Diamond Quilt - needs re-basting as I've changed my mind about the backing fabric!
Central Park 4 Patch - binding in progress
Black and White King Size Bed Quilt - completed quilt top, partial quilt back
Dresden Plate - partial quilt top
Kaleidoscope - one block made, lots of cut pieces in a drawer!
Central Park Sampler Quilt - 7 blocks made.
Kids T-shirt Memory Quilt - some t shirts cut....

Finishes this week: 0
New Projects this week: 1
In Progress: 8

I'm linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced for todays post.
