I don't have a WIP Wednesday this week :o(
My dresden is no further on, and I'm making another weighted pin cushion organiser for mum but you've seen them both before...
I'm thinking of making a sewing machine cover so I thought I'd head on over to Flikr and see what could be found, here's where you all come in:
Full Cover?

Or up and over, tied at the sides?
1. Sewing machine cover, 2. WiP: Sewing Machine Cover, 3. Little Red Riding Hood, 4. {Urban} Home Goods Swap - Thank you!, 5. Retro Ruler Sewing Machine Cover, 6. sewing machine, 7. Rainbow mosaic machine cover 2, 8. UHG Swap Sewing Machine Cover, 9. Hexagon Sewing Machine cover, 10. Valentine's Sewing Machine Cover, 11. NestingChairs-Sewing-Machine-Cover-003, 12. sewing machine cover front, 13. Sewing machine cover - back side, 14. Sewing Machine Cover, 15. Urban swap ready to mail16. Not available
Why did these covers attract my attention? The fabrics, the piecing, the mood they create? This is not going to be a scrap busting project for me as I have no scraps!, so any fabric will be brought specifically for purpose. With each project I take on at the moment I'm trying to apply a different method of piecing, so that I'm constantly learning and not just sticking to what I know!
That said, if I go for a full cover, do I then have a side slit for power cord and opening at the top for handle? To add pockets or not to add pockets?
Some have piping rather than binding, I'm not sure I'm up to that! It needs a different foot on the machine doesn't it?!?
I'd definately like something bold, bright and cheerful as my dining room can be a bit dark and shady. I love the Laurie Wisbrun stacking chairs green and orange fabric, and also the measuring tape fabric... will I even be able to still get these, I feel a fabric hunt coming on!
If anyone has made a sewing machine cover I'd love to hear from you. Which design you chose and why, any problems you encountered, and any tips you might have would be very much appreciated.
Thanks everyone :o)
P.S. Please do still head on over and see Lee at Freshly Pieced to see what she and all the others have been up to this week!

On my 'To Do' list too.
I like number 1 & 9 in the full covers (9 would be a great learning experience!), and 14 of the other; although the Laurie Wisbrun Nesting Chairs looks the coolest!
I like #3 in the first group....I like that it says....Sew Happy
I like the look of full cover number 6. I LOVE the pockets on full cover number 2 though I probably would choose some fabric that's a bit more fun. I like the idea of a slit for the handle. I'm not seeing it, but I wish there was some idea for a carrying piece or pocket for the cord and foot pedal for travel.
I have been planning on making one for myself too! I am going to do one with open sides, like you said, then you don't have to worry about cords and all that! I have a plastic "full" one and I just don't like it that much, but it is better for keeping dust off it! I have Number 7 in the first list bookmarked for myself as well! I love the simplicity of it! Good luck on your decision!
I like the up and over with side ties.the one with rainbow letters is real nice. You could personalize for your room.
I've been meaning to make my machine a cover, but it's sadly still naked. I like your collection here. I've been thinking open sides for mine. I use a large cone thread holder beside my machine and I wouldn't want to have to unthread it to cover it. Plus the cord, etc.
Good luck on your cover!
I would go full cover, with a slit at the top for the handle and a slit for the cord only if needed. It probably does not stick out that much. It would be cool if you added a pocket that you could keep your foot pedal in. I also love number 6 on the lower set of photos. The wide ribbon says I am new, fresh, and classy! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
I like full cover. #7 from Bloom's website is my favorite. I need to make one, too!
Ooo so many choices! I like the full covers best I think, they seem neater, and from that lovely selection would opt for 4 or 9. Loving the quilting on 4, if you're feeling up to a spot of free motion quilting?!
I've never made a sewing machine cover, but I think I'd prefer the full cover, just because I think it would do a better job of keeping out the dust, etc. But the side-tie ones are probably easier, since they don't have to be so tailored. Lots of nice choices in your mosaics though!
Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
