My first quilt finish of 2013!

My mum commissioned me for a baby boy quilt and this was quick and easy to put together, using Alexander Henry 2D Zoo fabric in blues and greens with some stripes in co-ordinating RK solids and some white to lighten it up a bit.

For the back mum asked for a soft snuggly feel so I used a flannel sheet from Mothercare coupled with some more of the blue and green solids and I did some simple wavy line quilting.

Then I put together a scrappy binding in all the colours aswell.

It measures 43x45 inches.
I apologise for the poor picture quality yet again but I finished it after dark.

While you're here may I pick your brains? I use Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton Batting, because it's easy for me to get hold of and is reasnoably priced but what wadding do you guys use/recommend? Also i'd like to make a loftier quilt, which waddings are good for loftiness?

I'm pleased to report that the flu has been kicked in the butt and although I feel a bit weak and weedy normal service is slowly being resumed.  Thank you for your get well messages, xxx

For some reason I honestly thought it was Tuesday today, senior moment? very possibly... but it's not, so i'll be linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced, and now I have to try and remember all my WIP's!

Exhausted!!!

Well we wished for a snow day and we've had nearly a week! Three days were spent sledging and snowballing then it was back to school (where I also work), then I helped evacuate nearly 200 children to the local community centre after a suspected gas leak - which now turns out to be the stupid French gas cloud! But there was some sewing time in there somewhere as I managed to:-

Put together a crib sized quilt top, for which I'm now awaiting backing decisions.

I made a couple more sampler blocks for my own quilt. This brings the total to 11 blocks and I only need 14 so the end could be in sight!

There were so many of these Granny Square blocks around last year and whilst looking at peoples 2012 roundups I saw them all again and realised I hadn't made one - and I know they are probably so last year but hey, now I can say I did one! And it was so quick and easy and looks so cute too.

I also put together another block for the Super Mario quilt, it's supposed to be a black bomb...

but it looks weird to me. It is not pressed or sashed yet so maybe it will look okay in the grand scheme of things, I'll have to wait and see...

And it's Wednesday so I'm linking up with Freshly Pieced as well :-)

P.S. I apologise for the poor picture quality, my iphone seems to be taking very dark photos...

Another finish!

I'm making up some quick quilts for my stall at the school fete on Saturday. Here's a simple one with Alexander Henry 2d Zoo in Primary, backed with pink gingham and with some lovely Joel Dewberry Herringbone in Berry for the binding, and quilted simply with wavy lines.
