Jack #2 - WIP Wednesday

Where did the last week go? I was waiting for more white fabric to arrive, then after having a filling at the dentist and not feeling much like sewing and a bank holiday weekend full of fun, family and bouncy castles I have been 'on it' trying to get another Jack done for hubby's Jack Attack quilt this week.

And here is Jack No 2!

A less traditionally coloured Jack but more fun I think, utilising the red London buses, telephone boxes and crowns this time.

I went a bit 'off piste' with the instructions as my directional prints were making my brain ache one evening, hence one of my points is way off, but I'm not a perfectionist and I think it still looks great overall.

Taking pictures of grey fabric on a grey showery day isn't ideal - sorry they're so dark!
One more Jack to go and I have lighter fabrics for that one including the London Tube Map print.
In case you missed the first jack, it can be seen here.

It's our 10th Wedding Anniversary on Friday and we're heading off to Bruge for the weekend, so although he won't be getting the quilt on the day he can at least see the progress I've made on his gift hanging on the dining room wall!

I'm entering loads of fabulous giveaways through SMS Giveaway Day but probably won't be able to check my emails until I get back on Sunday night - the suspense will be killing me!

Stats:
No progress this week so far on the;
Super Mario Bros quilt - 7/14 blocks made
Kaleidoscope Blocks - 5 blocks made, I'm not sure how many I can resurrect from my cutting mistakes but we'll see...

No progress this week year so far on the;
Solids HST Diamond Quilt - needs re-basting as I've changed my mind about the backing fabric!
Black and White King Size Bed Quilt - completed quilt top, partial quilt back
Dresden Plate - partial quilt top
Kids T-shirt Memory Quilt - some t shirts cut....

Finishes this week: 0
New Projects this week: 0
In Progress: 7

2 Binding Finshes

After yesterdays WIP post Flying Blind asked me how did I have a half bound mug rug, after all they are small projects! My only come back is that I'm too lazy to finish the binding as this is one of my least favourite quilting jobs...

So this is for you FB
Finished binding on both the Hungry Caterpillar quilt and the Union Jack Mugrug! And actually it took no time or trouble at all to get done!
Thanks for spurring me into action!

Happy St George's Day!

I started the Union Jack on the Queen's birthday and continued on into St George's Day, so it's fitting that the back is this;

and the Union Jack finished up like this;

I was winging it the whole way, with no pattern or measurements to follow and the quilting was done last night after several lovely cold beers! But I think it turned out pretty cute.

I might be able to get it bound this evening while watching Britain's Got Talent if I'm lucky!

Happy 85th Birthday Ma'am

So it's the Queen's 85th Birthday today, Happy Birthday Ma'am!
In celebration of this day and it's also St George's Day on Saturday I thought I'd try and make a union jack without a pattern....

Hmmm, not as easy as I thought! Ha Ha!

I gathered together some small pieces of fabric, drew out my plan, measured and cut... didn't work, see bottom left hand corner of the flag in the picture. so I decided to just wing it!

The top right hand corner is the 'winging it' corner and it's turned out a bit better!

Fabric Stash - A Beginning...

I only know one other quilter, Judith, and she has a beautiful sewing room in her converted attic and what a fabric stash she has!  I was very jealous!

I've seen online too many photo's of lucky quilters with the most beautiful stash of materials, so I recently ordered my first selection online and they arrived today! The 4 colourful pieces of Robert Kaufman on the right, thank you Celtic Fusion Fabrics :o)

My closest fabric shop is Heocks Patchwork in Liss, Hampshire but unfortunately just as I've found her, she's closing up to move to Dubai.  I popped in today and most things are 30-40% off, so I got some lovely bright red brick fabric and the black and white pumps fabric.

I popped into Mitchells Fabrics in Haslemere, Surrey on Saturday and got this very pretty remnant to play with.

I've got black and white bits and bobs left from my current quilt project - but I'm sure I'll use these up on the back of the quilt.

And last but not least I've got some Union Jack Flag fabric from ebay.  I'm not sure what I'll use it for yet, but I just had to have it!
