I did it! & I got One!

I'm very excited about two things and just had to share!

No 1 - I did it!
I bit the bullet and had a go at hand sewn binding on my pot holder/oven mitt.
Sorry for the poor picture quality but it was dark when I took it!

It's not quite finished yet but I'm really pleased with how it's going, and I'm also making one in the strawberry fabric in the corner of the picture.
The tutorial for this pot holder/oven mitt can be found at Oh, Fransson.

I'm linking up with Lily's Quilts: It's Fresh Sewing Day Today
Fresh Sewing Day @ Lily's Quilts

And No 2
I got an ORLA KIELY bag from TESCO - YAY!
These lovely pear design jute bags are being sold through Tesco with money from each sale going to the Clic Sargent charity - caring for children and young people with cancer in the home. Advertised as 'only in larger stores' I wasn't sure we'd get them in my local shop but yesterday there they were! I only had enough money for one yesterday, but I'm definately going back to try and get some more, I know a few people who would LOVE one!

P.S. There's also another vintage sheet FQ giveaway going on over at The Vintage Sheet Blog.

I like your oven mitt. Good for you on the binding. I used to dread that part of making a quilt, but since I learned to do the ladder stitch, I think it's fun.

Wow, your saucepan mat/oven glove looks fabulous!
Not so long ago when I heard about "pot holders" I thought it meant to hold plant pots, -duh!

Love your pot holder. I made one too, from the same tutorial and I would like to make more, my first one was very much a practise one. They are fun to make. Did you hand quilt - it looks fantastic

I haven't had the chance to make myself a potholder, but I've come across the tutorial, and it's been put on the "try this sometime later" list. I love your fabric selections for your potholder and the contrasting stitching looks gorgeous!

I still smile when I see the silly ole potholder from a few years back. This is just lovely and will be so happy in your kitchen.

Thank you everyone for all your comments!
My kitchen is black and white and I love this fabric because it introduces some bright colour, I'm now thinking of making some more placemats in the same material so I have a co-ordinating set!
@ Catherine; it is machine quilted, i'm trying out different stitches on the machine, and it still runs away with me sometimes so it goes even wonkier!
@ Terri; I'm so glad I tried hand stitching the binding, it wasn't as hard as I thought and even just doing the 2 oven mitts I can see an improvement in my stitiching already.
@ Peg; I'm loving these smaller projects, I'm learning so much from each one, whether it's piecing or binding or techniques. I'm sure I'll look back on them in time to come and think how rough and ready they are and laugh!
