Hi! Lets Get Acquainted...

Hi Everyone!  Thanks for stopping by, especially if it's your first time and via the Plum & June Lets Get Acquainted New Blogger Bog Hop.

I'm Karen, you can see my photo over there in the sidebar.  This is my family - their new favourite program is Duck Dynasty where EVERYTHING is camo, they were gearing up for a bit of a marathon session of it here!  And not forgetting Buster, Sparkle & Delilah!

I'm mostly a stay at home mum but I "work" at lunchtimes in the boys' school helping out the little ones in the dinner hall, this pocket money goes towards feeding my fabric habit!  Can you really call one hour a day work???

What is on your cutting table right now?
Hexies are on my cutting table right now, we are going camping this weekend and they are going to be my portable sewing project!

What type of sewing machine do you use?
I use a Toyota sewing machine.  Yes they make sewing machines as well as cars!  I didn't realise I was headed for quilting when I bought it, but it has served me very well so far.

What is your favourite/least favourite part of quilting?
My least favourite part of quilting is the basting, I'm always worried I'll mess it up and get a baggy bit!  My favourite part is sitting in the chair attaching the binding, it's the last chance to fondle the quilt before it goes off to it's new home usually!

What's on your Quilting Bucket List?
Well Hexies were at the top of the list and I'll share my progress hopefully next week on that front, but there is so much inspiration to be found on Flickr, Instagram and on other blogs that my bookmarks list is getting longer and longer!
I'd like to try applique, a drunkards path block for the curves!, FMQ - although I wonder how my machine would cope with that, and eventually tackle the Triple Zip Pouch!
What's on your bucket list?

What's new for you right now?
I moved into my new sewing room!  It's still quite sparkly and tidy! You can see my full reveal post here.  You can see my little fabric stash in the new cupboard.

And I'm hosting my very first linky party at the moment, it's running through July and it's called The Something Old Something New Challenge.  If you have made something with vintage fabrics, given an old something a new lease of life or repurposed something for use in your sewing space, then please link up and you might even win a prize!

Thanks so much to Beth of Plum and June for organising this blog hop, I've met so many lovely new quilting bloggers and learnt a lot about managing my blog along the way!  The others being featured today are;

Anne @ PlayCrafts
Cath @ Wombat Quilts
Sarah @ {no} hats in the house
Christen @ Love by Hand
Julie @ 627handworks

So please stop by and leave them some comment love!

I'll leave you with a mosaic of what I've been working on recently, thanks for persevering to the bitter end of this post!

Hadn't realised you hadn't tried fmq yet! Go on, jump in feet first, you'll love it. I only have a bog standard Brother sewing machine (from Argos twelve years ago) and with the darning plate in place I got on quite well (although you've seen the pictures and might not agree!)

I love your sewing machine cover. I have got to make one as funky as yours!

Nice to meet you! I also hate basting. It's the cloud in the silver lining. That fabric cabinet is really cute! I'm going to try to add something to the linky party!

Nice to meet you through the blog hop. I have been thinking and thinking about a project for the something old/something new link up. It is quite a challenge for me, which I love.

Just found your blog and have enjoyed reading it. I really like making "hexies". I started this past winter as a project to take on a train ride to Seattle,Washington for the Christmas holidays to see my daughter and family. Will be looking forward to seeing your "hexie" projects.

I had no idea Toyota made sewing machines! I also got my machine before I knew I'd end up quilting, but it seems to work fine. :)

Also, I am TOTALLY with you on the basting thing. I have so many tops that are just waiting to be basted, but I can't bring myself to do it. UGH. Although I use basting spray now and it makes it a bit better, but it's still such a pain.

Thanks for sharing so much fun info today!

Love this! Your lovely creative endeavors aside, I'd just like to take a moment to acknowledge your duck dynasty reference!! Coming from someone whose father is already outfitting camo gear for his 1 1/2 year old granddaughter, I personally appreciated that nod ;)

Lovely post! I love your new sewing space. So nice and pretty :) I don't remember the last time mine looked so clean and sparkly!

I also had no idea Toyota made sewing machines.. How interesting.

You should definitely give FMQ a shot- it's not nearly as scary as it seems at first!

Hexies are a lot of fun. I tried them a few months back and loved them. They are great to carry around especially when you are out and about in summer.

I had no idea Toyota made sewing machines. I am sure its reliable like their cars.

Wonderful post! So great to get to know you! I thinkit is awesome that you own a toyota sewing machine. I find it hilarious when companies make things that are not typically what you would think of - like Bic the pen companies made a surf board at one point (maybe they still make them who knows)! Love your HST Diamonds so far!

White glass-front cabinets filled with fabric are just about my favorite things. Nice to meet you! Is that a Kaleidoscope quilt in your mosaic? It's very nice!

I am totally with you on not liking basting and loving sewing on the binding :-) Thanks for sharing - enjoy your hexie making. I am working on some at the moment too and loving it.

Hexies!! They make the perfect travel project. Cool sewing machine. I didn't know that they made sewing machines. If they're machines are anything like their engines, it must be a winner. My FIL's car cracked 300,000 KMs recently.

It's so nice to find your blog through the hop! I love hexies, too; they are very addictive--I hope you had fun with them during your camping trip! Congrats on launching your first linky party! I can't wait to click over there and check out what you and others have made!

I am super jealous of how clean and organized your sewing room is. I would definitely call 1 hour a day work especially with kids:) You have some really cute projects. What a great post. You did a nice job with it!

I hate basting too. It's awful! I didn't know Toyota made sewing machines!! Great tidbit of information for the day! Your projects are lovely! I love your little hexie blocks too!

Lovely quilts. Sorry about the late - I'm having a bit of trouble getting anything accomplished that doesn't involve my three-year-old lately.
I'm not a fan of basting either. I usually pin, and I usually get a few puckers. I've been trying to be really aware of that fact and have taken the extra time.
I hope your fam enjoyed Duck dynasty.

Terrific post, so many beautiful items! You did inspire me and I finally chose fabric to make the sewing machine cover after realizing how dusty it gets waiting for my attention. I also despise basting - it takes so long!

Kris said...

Well I have to agree basting is not my thing and I have my very first freemotion quilt with baggy bits that I caught before i finished. However it is a lot to rip out and not sure I want to. :)
Live and learn and ...move on.
Nice to meet you on the blog hop.
